Literature Text

"Oh boy, oh boy." You frantically bounce on your toes and shake your hands at your sides, trying to get ride of the nervous energy building inside of you. It was hard not to be nervous. I mean, preforming in front of your entire school, journalist, Agents looking for new clients and your crush. Yup, it was the school talent show. But not just any High school show, this school is Hamiltion Boarding School, or HBS, as everyone called it for short. HBS is a very upscale boarding school for kids with gifts for things such as math, engineering, band, sports and literature. You were in the school for your ability to solve college math problems when you were 13. Three years later, you were still here and now risked public humiliation as your turn to be in the limelight neared.
"____," A boy's voice makes you jump and tears you away from your inner thoughts. "You OK?"
You whip your head around to come face-to-face with your friend(and crush), Ravis, looking into his gorgeous blue eyes.
"Huh? Oh, yeah, just a little nervous." You stopped bouncing on your toes and smiled awkwardly. "Shouldn't you be in the audience?" You asked. "Not that I don't want you here or anything, I-I just meant-" You spoke with panic and cut yourself off to stop from looking even stupider than you felt. Ravis chuckled and brushed his dirty blonde hair away from his eyes, making him look even more annoyingly cute. "Actually i'm helping out backstage, sound and lights. Tech stuff." He said. "And don't be nervous, you'll do amazing, i'm sure of it." He patted your shoulder and smiled. "I gotta go, good luck ____." And with that he was gone.
"Almost time." You mumbled to yourself and peak through the girl before you doing some gymnast act. The girl landed her final handspring and, of course, the crowd broke into applause and cheers. HBS's headmaster, Mrs.Myner, climbed up the sidesteps of the stage, also clapping. "That was a wonderful performance from Melissa Whspira." Her pinched voice echoed in the room. "Our next performer, is singer _____, enjoy."
You take deep breath to get rid you any last minute jitters, slowly pull back the heavy velvet curtain and walk to the center of the stage, gripping the microphone in your hand. The first upbeat notes of Rihanna's 'We found love" entered the room. closing your eye, the nervous energy left you as you began to sing. "Yellow diamonds in the light, we were standing side by side..." You sang. The crowd clapped along to the beat as you kept your eyes closed the entire time, focusing the mental clarity you didn't want to ruin.
When the song ended, you opened your eyes again and smiled at the crowd. Everyone was clapping, even some of the agents and journalist were standing for you.
"Uh, thank you." You said and quickly exited the stage.
"Hey____!" You heard Ravis shout and instantly stop to face him. "I heard your song."
Um...yeah, did you like it?" You asked and tucked loose strands of hair behind your ears.
"You kidding? That was amazing, you should sing more often, maybe Hollywood will take you in one day." He flashed another smiled at you.
"Yeah, maybe. Kinda a long shot but maybe."
"Only I wouldn't exactly like that, LA is kinda a long way from Santa Monica.." His voice trailed off. "So was that song meant for anyone special?"
Your face suddenly became hot and you look at the ground.
"Yes, I-I actually sang it for you." You admitted, worried about how he would react. Ravis just looked at you, the corners of his lip curled up in another smiled. Then he hugged you, tighter then you've ever been held.
"W-what are y-you doing?' You stuttered.
"Hugging you," He said simply. "It's hard not to be happy, knowing the girl you love feels the same."
Love? He loves me too! You though. "You l-like me? I-I didn't know."
He let go off you but kept his hands of your shoulders. "Three years is more than enough time to fall for someone." He said. "Now, let's go here the results of our show." He took your hand and lead you away to the edge of the deep red curtain. You follow the other students out to the stage again to hear the results. Second and third were called first, but they weren't you.
Maybe I did win. You thought. Or maybe I didn't place at all
As the feeling of disappointment washes over you,  the headmaster calls your name. For first place.
The award ceremony (if it could even be called that), was short. Everyone got a medal, weather for placing or for participation. Most of the other students had congratulated you on winning or complimented on your voice, but they didn't really set in until a tall man in a black suit stopped you backstage.
"Hello Ms._____, i'm Mr.Powers, and i'm am agent for West records. I heard you singing out there and I've got to say you've got talent." The man said. "I'd like you to come with me to Hollywood and make you a star, you've got potential to go far."
"Well, I-, i'd love to, but, I mean i'll have to ask my parent and stuff." You said, surprised.
"Understandable," Mr.Powers said. "Here's my card, give me a call within the next week with your decision." He handed you a laminated business card and walked away just as quickly as he had came.

An hour later, the room that had been full of people and lights was now dimmed and empty, all except for you and Ravis sitting on the stage.
"So are you gonna go to Hollywood." He finally asked you. You had already told the story to him. Twice. The past few minutes had been quiet, only the sound of your breathing and tapped of the heels of his shoes against the platform.
"I don't know. I want to, but what if I don't make it and end up a failure?" You said. "Or become a one-hit-wonder. And even if I do make it big, I won't get to see you."
Ravis sighed and laid his hand over yours.
"True, but this is still a big opportunity. Once in a life time." He said, a bit of sadness in his voice. "I say you should go. You won't have to worry about now seeing me, we have Skype and our cellphones."
You considered this and leaned your head on his shoulder. "I guess your right, i'll miss you though." You said as you take out your phone and punched in the number on the card.
"West records, how my I help you?" A woman's voice said.
"Hi, it's ____, I need to talk to Mr.Powers." You said nervously as Ravis smiled at you again.
"Please hold." She said and the line went quiet for a second before you heard a click. "Hello ___, I suppose you have your answer." He said.
"Yeah, I've decided to take your offer."
"Excellent, be ready at 6:00 PM, March 18, next week." He said. "We'll send a limo to take you to the airport. I'm gonna make you a star kid, Call you later." He said and the line went dead.
You snapped your cell shut and looked a Ravis. "I"m going, I hope I don't regret this." You said. Ravis moved his hand to the small of your back and leaned forward.
"Don't worry, everything always works out in the end." He said and kissed you. His lips were warm and soft, they felt absolutely perfect against yours.
They say Hollywood is dead, but you had never felt more alive in that moment.
